Who are the Lions of District 19-I?
We are 52 Lions Clubs and 6 Lioness Clubs from Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands and Olympic Peninsula with a total Membership of over 1,300. We are affiliated with Lions Clubs International,
the largest service Club in the world with branches in most countries and 1.4 million members strong. Our motto is “We Serve”
DG Al Beddows is member of the Sooke Lions Club and has been a Lion for 22 years. DG Al has served in every capacity at the Club level as well as Club Support Team facilitator. Camp Shawnigan Improvement Committee Chair, Zone Chairman as well as 1st and 2nd Vice District Governor. Al is retired and lives with his wife Jane in Sooke. They have 4 grown children and 6 grandchildren.
Lions are groups of service-minded men and women who are interested in doing volunteer work to improve their communities. We are young people, families and Baby Boomers alike. To become a Lion is to become an active volunteer, a member of a respected international organization, a leader in your community and a friend to people in need.
Lions Clubs International experiences fourth straight year of member increase
Our first priority is our communities; we are there to help the disadvantaged, the youth and the elderly. You might see our men and women building wheel chair ramps, organizing events to raise money
for diabetes or sending physically challenged kids to Camp, to name a few.
On the Global front we support Lions Clubs International Foundation. We have just successfully completed a campaign to eliminate river blindness in
the 3rd world. We will soon embark on a campaign to vaccinate children against measles, another big cause of death of children in developing countries.
You might have seen Lions tents and supplies in Haiti, or New Zealand after their devastating earthquakes. Where ever a disaster strikes we have Lions nearby to help.
