Marcel was born in Dixville, in Quebec's the Eastern Township. The third from a family of eleven children, he was raised on the family farm until graduating from school and moving on to Montreal in 1965.
He was a long haul driver to Florida until 1970, when he decided to see the World. He landed in Port Alice, North Vancouver Island, and began working at the pulp mill as an equipment operator, then on to mobile cranes and the relief foreman of his crew until retirement.
Marcel has been married to his wife Nancy Lee (a Retired Health Care Administrator) since 1973. They have two children. He was elected President of the Local Union and was a hockey referee for 25 years.
He joined Lions with the Port Alice Lions Club in 1983 and served in every office many times including Club President in 1986-87. He was Zone Chairman (four times) and all of those office's at 100%. He has served on many District committees and was Vice District Governor last year.
He received numerous awards including the International Leadership Medal, (3rd highest award), MD 19's Achievement Award, District I's Secretary Efficiency Award, Club President Excellence Award, Zone 19-I-6 Outstanding Service Award, Lion of the Year, twice, to name a few.
He has sponsored 6 new Lions and has 26 years of perfect attendance. He moved to Ladysmith in 2005 and joined the Ladysmith Lions Club.
He now enjoys the retired life with a large garden, woodworking, model railroad and travelling.
